With love for nature
The brand Fjällräven was born from the vision of one man and his vision to make nature accessible to more people. Åke Nordin was born in 1936 in Örnsköldsvik on the Swedish coast. The combination of rolling hills, deep forests and sheltered coastline was his perfect playground. There also arose the idea to make a backpack that was easier to handle than traditional backpacks, but also comfortable on his back sat. With his mother's sewing machine and his father's tools, Åke created a backpack with wooden frames in his basement. Ten years later, in 1960 in the same basement, Åke founded Fjällräven and sold his first product: a backpack with an aluminium frame.
During the 1960s and 1970s, Fjällräven's range expanded considerably, with tents, sleeping bags, jackets and trousers. The Greenland jacket, the Expedition Down Jacket and the iconic Kånken backpack proved to be decisive products. Almost every Swede, from enthusiastic hiker to enthusiastic nature lover, wears and trusts Fjällräven. As a true Sweden, we focus on simplicity and feasibility and work with the greatest respect for the environment and nature.
